Llavor 3D merges the Catalonian bet on additive manufacturing and digital printing

The community RIS3CAT Llavor 3D brings together the research and innovation strategy for the intelligent specialization of Catalonia on additive manufacturing and digital printing. With a budget of 11 million euros, the programme is funded by the Government of Catalonia through ACCIÓ (with a support of 3,8M€ provided from FEDER funds) and coordinated by LEITAT.

Llavor 3D consists of four projects: 3D Tooling, PRO2, Transport and QuiroFam. CIMNE participates in two of them: Transport (Prof. Carlos Agelet de Saracibar, Michele Chiumenti are the CIMNE researchers on charge of this Project leaded by CIMNE), and PRO2 (Prof. Miguel Cervera is the representative of CIMNE in this project).

On May 2018 was celebrated the Kick-off meeting (KOM) of Llavor 3D organized by LEITAT. Joan Comas, General Project Manager of R+D+i from ACCIÓ, participated in the KOM. Subsequently, took place the talk of the technical coordinator of the Community (LEITAT), Magí Galindo, the leaders of each project, including Carlos Agelet, technical leader of the TRANSPORT project presented their papers.

The event was attended by more than 100 people, both from the 31 member entities of the Community and from other collaborating entities that will be actively linked. In the Community participate both SMEs and large companies, research centers and universities of the Catalan innovation system.

For companies, these technologies represent an alternative to design, develop and sustainably produce new products that strengthen their competitiveness. The Community Action Plan foresees the development of this type of technology in the sectors of the manufacture of tooling, the improvement of products and industrial processes, transport and health.

Within the projects of the LLAVOR 3D Community, new software tools will be developed, new materials, more efficient and versatile production processes, new post processes and surface treatments and new applications of 3D printing, contributing to the creation of an ecosystem of R+D in additive manufacturing technologies that reinforce the position of Catalonia as an international benchmark.
